Objects of Affection

Objects of Affection

We first came across @thechildhaus on Instagram, drawn in by the striking interplay of soft, welcoming hues and the raw, textured elements that defined their home. Something about the space spoke of contrasts in perfect harmony—an aesthetic that felt both deliberate and effortless. Our curiosity led us to connect, and soon we were warmly greeted by Min, Shawn, and their delightful feline companions, July and Garfield, affectionately known as Bui Bui.
Stepping into their home, it was hard to pin it to a single style, yet the sense of comfort was undeniable. The thoughtful interplay of wood and metal created a space that felt balanced yet alive with creativity. Everywhere we turned, quirky art pieces and distinctive furniture reflected the personalities of its owners. Both Min and Shawn work in the creative field, with Shawn, an interior designer at @met.interior, shaping the home’s aesthetic. His keen eye for detail was evident in every corner, from the soft curves in their bedroom to the cleverly concealed vinyl paneling that hid unsightly wires.
Though they’ve only called this space home for a year, the thoughtful care behind each object and design choice was palpable. In the living area, glass blocks stood as a partition, diffusing light beautifully to create a private nook that remained airy and open. One block, repurposed as a lamp, carried a particularly touching story—a gift from a client who had been inspired by the very same glass blocks Shawn and Min used in their home. Each corner seemed to hold objects of affection, pieces infused with meaning, memory, and care.
Community is at the heart of their home’s story. The dining table, handcrafted by Shawn’s father, is a centerpiece that seats up to eight guests, standing as a testament to their love for hosting. Space is also well thought out to accommodate an automatic mahjong table for their weekly games that bring friends and family together. For Min and Shawn, these moments of connection are precious—a way to stay grounded amidst the hustle of daily life.
Their home is more than a reflection of their creativity; it’s a space that holds stories of connection, care, and the quiet joy of thoughtful living.
